FireFox Is The Worst

Dump FireFox

I have finally had enough.

I am sick to death of the Mozilla / Firefox Browser flinging poo all over my desktop every time I use it.

It crashes or hangs when you try to load a PDF file.
It crashes or hangs when you try to view most movie formats.
It crashes or hangs when you try to download most things.
Your downloads go to bizarre and obscure places.
It’s SLOW.
It’s BUGGY.

And now I find that the site layout has been skewed and crappy for a couple of weeks since I posted my piece on E85 because the graphic was oversized and I had NO idea because Firefox handled it improperly while IE (which MOST people use) and other browsers were choking to death on it.

I’m done.

I preach so hard here on patronizing the independent and not giving your money to Brown Sludge, and trust me - nobody has LESS respect for “Uncle Bill” Gates and his BrownSludge Express than I do, but… in order to be a true viable “alternative” you have to WORK.

And quite frankly. Firefox just doesn’t.

I manage an IT department, and when my boss came to me and said “I want you to have someone install Firefox on all the desktops here - because I’ve heard it’s safer than IE” I told him flatly “No.” I had almost 50 desktops to deal with, and I told him that Firefox was a buggy hunk of junk that would cause nothing but grief. He said he wanted to try it out and see for himself.

It lasted exactly 3 hours in practical use before he was on the phone telling me to “get this piece of garbage off my desktop.” In the 180 minutes it was on his desktop it crashed 3 times, and hosed up a file download from a government website that contained time critical information.

It’s a nightmare.

And it’s not on my desktop anymore.

I’m done.

It’s a shame - because tabbed browsing truly was the coolest thing since sliced bread, and if it had been properly managed and properly debugged I’m convinced it could have driven a stake right through IE’s heart, and I’ll miss the tabs greatly.

I won’t miss them long however, because the new version of Windows due out later this year will have a new version of IE that sports - you guessed it - tabbed browsing.

It’s a sad thing to say, and it makes me sick that BrownSludge has won this round, but this time next year it will be “Fire-who??”

It didn’t have to be this way.
